THIRST is proud to announce the publication of its long awaited report on Alternative Approaches in the Tea Sector. The report shares thirteen case studies of non-traditional business models and trading systems that have the potential to make the tea industry fairer for all. Each initiative has been assessed against the issues identified in THIRST’s Root Causes Analysis of Human Rights breaches in the tea sector and how they address them. Some of the case studies include a ‘deep dive’ analysis based on field visits, interviews with those responsible for the initiatives and further desk analysis. (The field visits to Kenya, Sri Lanka and Tanzania were made possible through a generous donation by Tesco plc.)

The intention is to inform and inspire the tea sector to explore more creative and equitable ways of producing tea, ways that benefit tea farmers and workers and help fulfil their human rights.

This report will kickstart the process of building up a continually updated library of Alternative Approaches case studies. Get in touch if you have one to share.
